Theobroma, chocolate-flavored beer, based on ancient recipe, new (along with 2 others) at City Swiggers

Three delicious large-format beers, new at City Swiggers: Cricket Hill's Nocturne (a dark lager), Dogfish Head's Theobroma, and Perennial's Peach Berliner Weisse. Click image for larger view. Theobroma is particularly interesting, because it is based on a chemical analysis of ancient pottery fragments found in Honduras, which reveal the earliest alcoholic chocolate drink now known, a beer used by the locals of the time to toast special occasions. The discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest known use of cocoa more than 500 years to 1200 BC. Dogfish brews Theobroma with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). These three fine beers find now at City Swiggers, 320 East 86th  Street, btwn. 1st & 2nd avenues.
